What Kind Of Writer Are You? How To Start Writing
Are you a secret writer who squirrels away numerous ideas in notebooks, on scraps of paper, or on their laptop?
Never sharing what you write, or telling anyone about your author dreams?
Or are you someone who tells everyone you plan to write…
and then doesn’t actually write down a word?
Whatever kind of writer you are right now what all new writers have in common is that they can get distracted from writing by the things they hear. There are lots of myths that we tell ourselves about writing that are not exactly true including:
‘You need to know the whole story before you start writing’. Not true at all, that’s called discovery writing.
‘You need to be great at spelling and grammar to be a writer’ – Nope, you don’t need to even think about this until you have completely finishing writing and it’s time to edit, so you can learn as you go along.
‘You need a new laptop or device to write on’ You can write a book with a pencil and a notepad (as people did for many years before computers).
‘You need fancy software to be a writer’. You don’t, I started on an old laptop
‘There is a perfect time to start writing your book’. The perfect time is whenever you do it.
There are almost as many ways to write as there are writers, so don’t let what someone else is doing put you off. They aren’t you and you aren’t them.
